Why are we doing this ?

Millions of US Citizens live abroad.  A small fraction of them vote.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of missing US voters overseas   don't know they have the right to vote, don't know how to exercise their right, or believe the process too complicated to vote from abroad.   Successfully reaching out to these occasional, and first time, voters is a new and critical piece of the Get Out The Vote puzzle.   (For example, two hundred and twenty thousand, that is 220,000!!!!! U.S. university students, primarily first time voters, will arrive and study internationally in September 2008.)

You may be aware that in 2006, through our paradigm-shifting web tool, (I like calling it that, because I think it is, and I like it so much I am going to say it again), through our paradigm-shifting web tool, VotefromAbroad.org, Democrats Abroad helped deliver the ultra-slim margin of victory that sent Jim Webb of Virginia to the US Senate, giving Democrats a one-vote majority in the Senate.

In 2008, we hope to do even more.  We have to.

It's not just the pundit-anointed swing states where overseas votes can have an impact. My guess-timate is that overseas votes accounted for 300-1,000 votes for Tester in Montana in 2006. He beat Burns by a margin of less than 3,000 votes. We can magnify that impact by increasing the number of overseas voters!

Democrats hold the governor's seats in a number of Western states which hold the potential for November surprises. In other Western states, once-safe GOP Congressional and Senate seats are in play. Reverse coattails, anyone?
